An Experimental Study on Edge Defects in End Milling of Al-6061

 Chih-Hsing Chu

Sponsored By: CODEF/NSF

Abstract

A series of experiments have been conducted for investigation of edge defects in the end milling of Al-6061. The focus is to study the influence of the radial depth of cut, the axial depth of cut, and feedrate on different burr formation mechanisms, including exit burr in the cutting direction, exit burr in the feed direction, side burr, top burr and edge breakout. The experimental findings serve as the micro-planning agent for edge-precision process planning in CyberCut and as a basis for further process planning development.
