Investigation on the Geometric Characteristics of Drilling Burr in Stainless Steel

Abstract 

A rubber casting method to investigate the detailed geometry of the drilling burr was tried for stainless steel. Information of the detailed geometry of drilling burr is very useful since the burr volume can be calculated from the cross-sectional geometry. It was found that the burr thickness was a better estimator for the burr volume than burr height. A correlation between burr height and burr volume was also obtained.
