Unified Approach to Burr Prediction System

Abstract

Recent studies have shown that a geometric approach can be used effectively for the burr prediction and burr formation in the planar milling process. The way the tool exits the workpiece has an important influence on the type of burr formed. Exit order sequence of the tool edges can be critical in the burr formation. After thorough investigation of the impact of the exit order sequence on the type of burr formation for different geometries, we plan to develop software for burr prediction. Also based on this information given the tool path, software will be able to predict the location of the burr on the workpiece. This prediction is based on the assumption that two edges of the tool intersect at a point i.e. tool nose radius does not get considered.
