 Burr Reduction by Tool Design

 Berlin Shyu

Sponsored By: CODEF

Abstract

CODEF (Consortium on Deburring and Edge Finishing) has a long history of research on burr formation and minimization. One of the objectives of this research is a computer simulation framework which helps users easily do CAD (Computer Aided Design) of drills and other tools with finite element analysis verification for burr prevention. Major components of this software framework are under improvement to further strengthen and extend their capabilities. This framework is designed to provide an accessible computer aided engineering environment for manufacturing and design engineers. The use of this software framework in designing of drills and determining process parameters for burr prevention or reduction is discussed.
