Burr Formation in Drilling Intersecting Holes

  Karina Leis

Sponsored By: DaimlerChrysler

Abstract

Burr formation in intersecting holes presents a particular challenge. This study is being conducted in order to develop a model for this specific kind of burr formation. The model will be based on materials properties and yield stress theory. The emphasis will be on comparing two specific drill geometries. A set of experiments with several drill diameters and these two drill geometries is carried out. The experiments will be evaluated by means of metallographic analysis of the burr cross section and micro-hardness testing as well as by measurements of the feed force and torque during the drilling process.
